Overview
Comparatives
Used to compare two things, showing that one has a higher, lower, or equal degree of a quality compared to the other.
Structure:
S1 + is (short adjective) + er + than S2.
S1 + is more/less (long adjective) + than S2.
Ex:
This book is thicker than that one.
This book is more interesting than that one.
Superlatives
Used to show that one thing has the highest or lowest degree of a quality within a group.
Structure:
S + is the (short adj) + est of/in (group).
S + is the most/least (long adj) of/in (group).
Example:
This is the shortest trip I’ve ever gone.
This is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen.
